2 Rail Finescale - 57' Mk I BG Coaches

Our versatile MK1 Full Brakes complement perfectly our range of MK1 passenger coaches. MK1 BGs can be included in passenger or mail train formations but are equally at home being shunted in ones or twos around a yard, where their shorter length releases precious inches for 7mm ‘micro’ layouts or dioramas. They feature all the premium construction elements of their passenger-carrying sisters, including full interior lighting.


History

Constructed alongside the MK1 passenger coaches, MK1 BG (‘Brake Gangwayed’ or ‘Full Brake’) coaches were 6ft 6in shorter in length. This was to allow them to enter tightly-curved baggage platforms at some stations, from which longer vehicles were prohibited.

Over 1100 MK1 BGs were built, with many surviving today on heritage railways, where they’ve proved particularly useful as accessible coaches or for storage.
